Furlongs Butchers were established in 1621 by Philippe Furlong. The Furlong Family originated in Normandy, France. Philippe was responsible for setting up The Charter of Butchers in Wexford Town. where each year they donated a bull to the Wexford County Council. Business has remained within the Furlong Family for almost 400 years, with the current proprietor being Mr Paul Furlong. Paul is the 13th generation of Furlongs Butchers. Paul has trained for 5 years in the college of Market & Design in Dublin where he holds a certificate in the meat trade. Paul has been presented a diploma from the Dublin Master Victuallers Association and a diploma in Meat Management from The Irish Master Butchers Federation. Paul has 43 years experience in the meat trade having worked in all aspects of the trade, from procurement of live animals to slaughtering, cutting, boning, curing and meat manufacturing.
